It´s good to have friends!!!!!!

Just wanted to let you all know about our carnaval outreach last week. Ofcourse with some pictures and some film to make it complete!!!

Thursday 31st of January: we´re leaving the base at night, before we leave ofcourse some last anouncements, lots of prayer but finally at 22:30 we left. Jander had dropped me off at the base before, but he came back last minute as I had left my pillow in the car.....(we live about 20 mins from the base). The bus was loaded bus (50 people!) but with Jander´s mp3-player I was able to sleep quite a bit.

Friday February 1st: After a couple of ´pitstops´ we arrived at the base of Recife at 11:30; We were the first base to arrive and were received very well. We all got a bracelet for identification, as we´d be on the base with around 300 people, and a tshirt of the impact. It was great to be here and to be able to hug some old friends. During the impact I stayed at the house of Webio and Simone who I know from Casa Refugio in Belo Horizonte, I shared the room with their niece, much better than sharing small rooms with 15 girls like the others and no waiting in line for the bathroom!!!! It´s good to have friends!!!!!! That afternoon we rested from our trip and at night we had our first meeting with lots of worship in regae, samba and axe-rithms. One big party, who else can it be when you´re with people of all of the continents of the world!!!

Saterday February 2d: We had to get up at 4:30 a.m.(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!), breakfast is at 5, as we´re supposed to leave at 6 for our first impact: galo de madrugada (litt.midnightrooster) is an important symbol of the Carnaval of Recife. We´ll have a silent parade with the whole team in our white impact thsirts, with white balloons, with only the sound of the drums we´ll be praying for Recife. Our tshirts say: impacto da paz, which means peace impact. Because through this action we want to shake the people and authorities up for the violence, alcohol-abuse, prostitution and other bad things that happen during the carnaval. The organisation of the impact sent a notice to all the press so we were interviewed, filmed and transmitted several times by local and national broadcasting-companies!! When we´re halfway, we waited for another church to join us to enter the bridge where we had a great celebration to honour God, and also we knieled down to intercede for Recife. It´s midday and the sun is so hot we´re almost melting! After a break with a snack to gain some energy we continue with evangelism. Dance and theatre are performed and people are approached to explain what we´re doing. We return back to the base very tired, have some rest and have another worshipmeeting at night.

Sunday feburary 3d: After breakfast another meeting, God is caling our attention. Before someone had received a word from God that we should all lay on the bridge to pray as an act of obedience, but instead we knieled. Sometimes we don´t understand why God asks certain things, but something we learned was to obey! We prayed, asked for forgiveness and prepared ourselves to go back into the battle, we´ll do today what God asked us to do! The worship time we have this morning is totally powerfull, there literally are clouds of dust as the building where we meet is still in construction and the floor is pure cement. At the end of the afternoon we leave to the centre of Recife again where we form a parade with lots of music, dancing and rejoicing. When we came close to the bridge we went marching up the bridge, we layed down on our backs and prayed. After we had a great time of celebration again, there was so much dancing you could really feel the bridge go bouncing! Just like in the bible with Jericho we decided to walk around the bridge 7 times, and it wasn´t a small bridge... after some more worship time we take a rest, and eat our home-made sandwich as our day isn´t over yet, from here we´ll continue to the old centre of Recife where we present some more theatre and other things and we evangelize the people that pass. After midnight we return back to the base.

Monday February 4th: Because all of the dust and tiredness I got a really bad cold, and almost didn´t sleep, so I took this day off. The rest of the group went evangelizing in the afternoon again, and after they went to a ritual that they have each year: the night of the silent drums. At exactly 00:00 they turn off the lights and the ´pais de santos´ call out the spirits untill they get possessed by them. This ritual was brought to brazil by the african slaves, and it´s very popular, there were thousands of people. The group that went there for the impact couldn´t use their thsirt of the impact as they couldn´t identify themselves as christians, that would give them serious troubles. The ´only´ thing they could do was being there and pray to the only God while at the stage the spirits were invoked. If it helped? Well, the only thing I can tell you that not one was able to get possessed, coincidence? I´d say: halleluja!!!!

Tuesday feburary 5th: Our last impact day. We´re leaving right after breakfast. Today we´re going to a place called Olinda, very famous for her Carnaval. Again we´re having a prayer-parade, only this time we´re having a very hard time trying to get through the human jumping, dancing and drunk crowds. I´ve never ever seen so many people together! And it was still in the morning, not even the busiest time of the day! we had to grab hold of each other in small groups if we didn´t want to be taken into another direction by the crowd, couldn´t believe that people were actually bringing children to this event! Our impact thsirt were great help to identify ourselves and not to loose sight of our own group. We give a peace-manifest to the mayor of olinda and walk some more kilometres until we get to a square for some lunch and rest. After we have time for presentations and evangelism. We have 3 blocks of presentations and evangelism. Many people got touched these days by God and decided to choose the eternal life. It was a long day at 19:oo we go back to the base to get a shower, dinner and our last meeting. Right after that we got back into the bus on the way back to Fortaleza, why would it be that the bus got so silents so soon? After 12 more hourse in the bus we arrived around 12:00 at the base: tired, but satisfied and tahnful for what God has done these days.

Jander&Efraim: Jander spend the whole week alone with Efraim and both missed me a lot, the last day Efraim litterally got sick of it, he had been lying on the floor being sad the whole day, while usually he plays a lot, he even had a bit of a fever. He was very happy to see me again, but at the same time he got upset with me and didn´t want to know of me, as if he was angry that I had left him alone for so long. Luckily this got better soon!
Well, now you all know how things work during our impacts, do you want to know if we really made an impact of peace in Recife, did we really make a diference? Acording to the news and internet this year the number of deaths due to violence during the cranaval has dropped 34% compared to last year........Next impact will be in Juazeiro do Norte in october, jander has been there a few times before, this year we want to try to go together!
